Sensational Sensory Tunnel

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association has unveiled its new Sensory Tunnel at Crufts.

Visitors to Crufts were able to walk through the pitch black tunnel and experience a taste of life without sight.

People could smell freshly mown grass and hear traffic and countryside noises. Under their feet, they felt a surface that simulates grass and a Braille pavement. They were also able to feel walls made of brick, grass, wooden fencing and wire fencing.

Guide Dogs is working to break down barriers so that visually impaired people can enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else, and Baconinflate was on hand to support their objectives by realising the bespoke design.

The tunnel, designed in partnership with the Guide Dogs team provided an insight into the everyday challenges faced by blind and partially sighted people. It gives sighted people the opportunity to gain an understanding of how people with sight loss use all their senses in everyday life.

The Sensory Tunnel will be activated at various events and exhibitions across the UK and 2012 events calendar.

Coke – Event Village

During most New Zealand summers Coca Cola will be seen promoting or sponsoring a major event of some sort, and this summer has been no different.

This summer’s Coca Cola campaign was managed and operated by Madant promotions, a long time supplier to the global brand. Their concept was to have a “Coke Village” that could be easily transported around a number of holiday hot spots and erected and pulled down over a short period of time.

Baconinflate\\Canvasland was invited to present a number of concepts that would meet Cokes objectives and provide the visual impact always associated with the brand. We needed to consider the marketing opportunity on offer to Coke given the massive audience that would see the village when it “popped up” overnight.

The Coke Dome Village was the final concept that came to fruition over many months of planning and design.

The village is a combination multiple EventStation® dome structures (one 6 metre, two 11 meter and one 15 meter diameter). Each EventStation is connected with tunnels fabricated from an aluminium frame and PVC skin.

The EventStations® are free standing air inflated leg structures which are covered with a printed PVC skin. One benefit of the separate outer skin is the fact it can be removed and replaced with another outer printed with other brands and graphics for future events.

The 15mtr EventStation® was the feature piece of the village. Over and above the actual size of the structure, its eye catching digital graphics made it stand out at every location it was erected.

Inside, the dome housed a variety of audio visual elements from giant LED screens, free standing touch screens and lighting which provided entertainment to the masses. A stage with live band was also on hand to add to the atmosphere in the main dome.

A lightweight aluminium truss was custom designed to fit within the 15mtr structure. Again, transportation and logistics were a consideration, so the truss was manufactured in manageable components which were easy to move and erect without the need for any heavy lifting equipment. Once set up inside the inflatable structure the truss added to the visual impact of the dome and was used to carry audio and visual equipment.

Given the size of the 15mtr dome, a steel ballast system was also needed to ensure that it was securely fixed in place wherever it was set up. 1.5mtr diameter ballast weighing 600kg each was attached to all 10 of the inflatable legs of the dome, providing a wind rating of up to 54kph.

Since its first appearance at Auckland’s Coca Cola Christmas in the Park concert, the village has toured around a number of holiday locations and has received an amazing response from all who have viewed and experienced the promotion.

ANZ - 2011 Rugby World Cup

The inflatable temporary structure commissioned by ANZ Bank and managed by event company Orange Production was installed for 6 weeks during the 2011 Rugby World Cup in the purposely developed fan zone - Party Central, Auckland, NZ .

The inflatable dome incorporated, a huge full print skin seamlessly manufactured with ANZ 'welcome to the world' wrapped artwork, integrated water ballast tubes to secure to raised platform floor and solid fabricated glass doors with integrated DJ booth area.

Visitors to the 16m EventHaus® inflatable dome were able to kick a virtual rugby ball and see where it goes. They were also able to dodge a charging virtual player, and have their photograph meshed with a New Zealand landscape scene of their choice and emailed to friends or put up on Facebook or Flickr.

The interactive games use technology developed for Microsoft's new generation Kinect games. The technology uses senses motion, which connected to what happens on the screen without the player using a keyboard, mouse or controller, or wearing any special equipment.

As well as the games, the ANZ Dome provided 30 iPads, whereby visitors could interact with them for a range of purposes whilst inside.

Two large LCD screens mounted centrally on a trussing framework enabled visitors to view the rugby games and coverage live during the day and evening.

The supply establishes the newly working partnership between UK and NZ companies and hope to help increase awareness of the exciting products and services now available in New Zealand and Australia.
Skeleton Sea

The Volvo Ocean Race is mounting a global campaign to raise awareness of the increasing pollution that is swirling in our oceans, threatening sea-life and washing ashore on beaches across the world.

Together with artist collective Skeleton Sea, the Volvo Ocean Race is voicing a call to arms for everyone to help reduce pollution and share in a simple message through the 'Keep the Oceans Clean!' initiative.

Artists João Parrinha, Luis de Dios and Xandi Kreuzeder joined forces to create Skeleton Sea. All three are ambitious surfers, and all three have also established several art projects to date. They work in an effort to communicate their visions of the meeting point between Mother Nature, Sport and Art. Their creations have made a successful contribution to raising environmental awareness from the perspective of those that rely on nature to feed their passion for sport.

The imposing sculptures and six-minute film will be on show at the equally intriguing and inviting Keep the Oceans Clean! dome, which will follow the path of the 39,000 nautical mile ocean race.

The nine-month race includes stopovers at Cape Town, Abu Dhabi, Sanya, Auckland, Itajaí, Miami, Lisbon and Lorient. The fleet of six yachts crewed by the world’s most elite sailors will cross the finish line at Galway, Ireland in July 2012.

Through the UK manufacturing process any off cuts were recycled as part of the 'TexyLoop' scheme to reinforce the green credentials and illustrates Baconinflate's commitment to its environmental policy within standard production.
